| Mission Statement |
The mission of the Institute is to enhance the professionalism and political legitimation of Australian home economists.
The mission of the home economics profession in Australia is to educate, inform, and to act as an advocate to government, industry and the community for families and households, so that individuals can make informed choices in order to enhance their everyday living. |
| About Us |
HEIA was incorporated in 1994 as the peak professional body for home economics in Australia. The mission and focus of the profession are reflected in the HEIA logo. The concentric circles symbolise the family unit within the community and the world as a whole. Through the centre runs the flame of the lamp of learning.
HEIA (SA) provides leadership, services and products to meet the professional needs of home economists. It also represents the interests of home economists working in education, industry, community services, consumer affairs, and family and household management.
Benefits: HEIA coordinates a national conference biannually. HEIA (SA) offers regular workshops, seminars, mentoring, and resource sharing to address local needs. A national refereed journal with the latest research and happenings in the field, a national newsletter with the latest news, a SA newsletter ‘HEIA SAy’ with news, resources, workshops and contacts. Access to home economics publications and resources (see website). Members rates apply to workshops, conferences, and the purchase of resources. |
