Supporting Music Education for all South Australian Students |
| About Us |
KMEIA SA is a not-for profit organisation run by volunteers with a passionate belief in the importance of universal music education.
Aims:
- to promote music education for all students in South Australia
- to provide professional development to music educators pre-school to the middle school years through workshops, courses, conferences and publications.
About:
Kodály gets its name from Zoltán Kodály (1882—1967), a Hungarian composer and music educator who believed that a music education should be the right of every child, not just the wealthy. Many of his ideas were drawn from the work of earlier music educators, (especially Guido, Glover and Curwin). These ideas have also been influenced by the work of Orff and Dalcrose. They evolved into an approach to music education which came to be collectively referred to as the ‘Kodály Concept’. It is a flexible approach catering for changing times, places and contexts but with key essential features:
- Music education for all children
- Step-by-step sequential learning birth to end of school and beyond
- Aims for music literacy – ultimately to read, write and think music - the same way we do script
- Accessible music education based on singing and moving using traditional songs and best quality music available
- Whole child development- socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually, culturally and ethically
- Fun
