The principle mission of The Mathematical Association of SA Inc (MASA) to support mathematics teachers and the teaching of mathematics in South Australia, offering professional development, publications and student activities, focussing on the development of good pedagogy, effective classroom practice and quality learning tasks. It is the sole SA affiliate of AAMT providing a national voice for SA teachers of mathematics.

MASA was founded over 50 years ago to serve the school community in mathematics. It is an inaugural member of AAMT which is a federation of similar state bodies across Australia. In this way MASA has the opportunity to be involved at a national level, and be a voice for SA teachers of mathematics. We provide significant assistance for Year 12 students with our Revision Guides which are published annually. Our Annual Conference and Middle years mathematics and science conference are well attended and offer opportunities for teachers to establish strong connections with colleagues, and be well aware of current issues and practices, both in SA and nationally. We are an affiliate of The Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, and through this federation of state associations we have a voice at national level.

MASA has recently employed a full-time Professional Officer. The main responsibility of this role is to liaise with schools and teachers about ways in which our association can provide services.

One major focus of activities this year is how best to support teachers in the implementation of the Australian Curriculum. We are conducting workshops detailing the AC and how best to plan for its implementation.

We also offer workshops aligned to particular needs and requests, and in response to requests we are producing publications related to folio tasks for year 11 and 12 SACE students.
