| Mission Statement |
The aims of SAGTA are to:
- promote the teaching and learning of German in South Australia.
- offer support to all teachers and students of German on matters of concern
- foster contact by teachers and students with speakers of German in the community and abroad
- encourage and facilitate travel abroad by teachers of German and their students
- co-operate with similar bodies interstate and overseas

SAGTA is proud to promote the study of German language and culture, especially in view of the ongoing contribution of German presence in South Australia since 1836 in the economic, political and educational spheres. Its activities include:
- Combined Primary / Secondary German Teachers Conference (substantial reduction in registration fee for members)
- Subscription to Szene Journal with membership
- Subsidies for special projects
- Subsidies for students participating in exchange programs
- Year 11 / 12 Conversation Afternoons
- Upper Primary Afternoon
- German language screenings of popular films
- Liaising with the Modern Language Teachers' Association (MLTASA)
- Liaising with other German teachers' organisations both interstate and abroad
- Active promotion of German language to be maintained and expanded in the South Australian School Curriculum
- Production and sales of German teaching resource materials
