About CEASA World Teachers Day

Each year CEASA holds a special awards ceremony on the last Friday in October to celebrate the contribution made by South Australians to the education profession. The inaugural celebration event was held in 2006. In addition to recognising and celebrating awards that professional associations have made during the year to their members, and with sponsorship from Credit Union SA, CEASA presents its own awards to outstanding nominees in the following categories:

  • Early Career Teacher
  • Teacher Supporting Teachers
  • Innovative Association

Celebrating the Teaching Profession

In 2010, CEASA celebrated the contributions made by South Australian teachers to the profession at a special awards ceremony held on Friday 29 October in the Education Development Centre, at which CEASA member associations identified 52 award winners for 2009/10. We were honoured to have The Minister for Education and Children's Services, the Hon. Jay Weatherill, and Mr David White, CEO of Credit Union SA, present to confer the awards. Mr Gino DeGenarro, the Acting CEO of DECD, gave a 'Toast to the Profession' at the cocktail party afterwards.

In 2011, CEASA celebrated the contributions made by South Australian teachers to the profession at a special awards ceremony held on Friday 28 October in the Education Development Centre, at which CEASA member associations identified 50 award winners for 2010/11. We were honoured to have The Minister for Education and Child Development, the Hon. Grace Portolesi, and Mr David White, CEO of Credit Union SA, present to confer the awards. Jan Andrews, the Chief Executive of the Office of Non-Government Schools, gave a 'Toast to the Profession' at the cocktail party afterwards.

In 2012, CEASA celebrated the contributions made by South Australian teachers to the profession at a special awards ceremony held on Friday 26 October in the Education Development Centre, at which CEASA member associations identified over 60 award winners for 2011/12. We were honoured to have The Minister for Education and Child Development, the Hon. Grace Portolesi, and Mr Grant Strawbridge, CEO of Credit Union SA, present to confer the awards. Mr Keith Bartley, the CEO of DECD, gave a 'Toast to the Profession' at the cocktail party afterwards.

Credit Union SA - CEASA Teacher Supporting Teachers Award

In 2010 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Teacher Supporting Teachers Award went to Janet Harper (ACHPER) in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

In 2011 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Teacher Supporting Teachers Award went to Catherine Emmerson (JLTASA)  in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

In 2012 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Teacher Supporting Teachers Award went to Joe Vandalen (MLTASA)  in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

The person nominated for the Credit Union SA – Teacher Supporting Teachers Award:

  • is a member of a CEASA-affiliated professional association
  • is an advocate for, and promotes association membership
  • has worked with high commitment and made an outstanding contribution to that association (state and/or national contribution)
  • is actively involved in promoting teacher professional development

Credit Union SA - CEASA Early Career Teacher Award

In 2010 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Early Career Teacher Award went to Nick Warren (ACHPER) in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

In 2011 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Early Career Teacher Award went to Jenni Lester (ASME) in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

In 2012 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Early Career Teacher Award went jointly to Mingxia Wei (CLTASA) and Brent Bloffwitch (INTAN) in recognition of their outstanding service and dedication to the profession.

The person nominated for the Credit Union SA - Early Career Teacher Award:

  • communicates effectively with their students, colleagues, parents/caregivers and community members, and behaves professionally and ethically in all forums
  • designs and implements engaging and effective learning experiences that meet the individual needs and diverse cultural, social and linguistic characteristics of their students
  • builds a variety of assessment strategies into their teaching programs to meet curriculum and assessment and reporting requirements, and uses the results of these to evaluate and adjust their teaching to better meet student needs
  • is a member of a CEASA-affiliated professional association and promotes both association membership and professional learning for teachers, and also works collaboratively with colleagues to evaluate and attend to their own learning needs

Credit Union SA - Innovative Association Award

In 2010 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Innovative Association Award went to the Kodaly Music Education Institute of SA (KMEIA) in recognition of its outstanding service and dedication to the profession as an association.

In 2011 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Innovative Association Award went to the Primary Maths Association (PMA) in recognition of its outstanding service and dedication to the profession as an association.

In 2012 the Credit Union SA-CEASA Innovative Association Award went to the The Computers in Education Group of SA (CEGSA) in recognition of its outstanding service and dedication to the profession as an association.

The association nominated for the Credit Union SA – Innovative Association Award:

  • is a member of CEASA
  • supports the vision and priorities of CEASA, namely:
  • has developed productive partnerships with other associations has met professional learning needs in innovative ways (developed common core programs in rural and urban areas, used ICT effectively, developed mentoring for teachers programs, used strategic and management leadership training for office bearers)
  • is an advocate for and promotes association membership
  • has worked with high commitment and made an outstanding contribution to the teaching profession and professional learning for teachers
