The inaugural SA Public Teaching Awards were announced by Minister Weatherill in January this year to recognise, reward and celebrate the valuable contribution of dedicated and effective teachers, education leaders and support staff in our public schools and preschools. The SA Public Teaching Awards provide a fantastic chance for educators from across the state to receive a once-in-a-lifetime professional development opportunity that benefits the nominee, their colleagues, the school and ultimately the students. It also provides a welcome channel for educators to receive recognition and appreciation from their school community.
Following the opening of nominations in May, members of the public including students, parents, colleagues and leaders submitted over 1,600 positive messages of thanks for the inspirational work of educators from across the state. Up to 84 Regional Winners were announced on 25 July and will be honoured at a celebratory dinner on World Teachers Day, 5 October 2011 at the National Wine Centre of Australia. The seven overall state-level winners will be announced at this ceremony and presented with a custom-made trophy and a professional development scholarship of up to $20,000.
The nomination and application process for 2011 has now closed. Next year’s process will be announced in February 2012. Don''t miss out on this great opportunity for recognition!
