The aitsl (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) National Professional Standards for Teachers is a public statement of what constitutes teacher quality.
All teachers need to understand fully each standard and how to meet each standard. The Standards make explicit the elements of high quality, effective teaching in 21st century schools and provide a framework that makes explicit the knowledge, practice and professional engagement required across teachers’ careers.
The Standards will promote excellence in teaching and provide a nationally consistent basis for recognising quality teaching. They make explicit what teachers should know, be able to do and what is expected of effective teachers across their career
Early Career and preservice teachers are urged to become completely familiar with these standards. Copies of the standards can be found at: email@example.com, or visit the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership
A number of the Australian professional teaching associations have produced their own standards which can also be used alongside of the National Professional Standards for Teachers.
