The terms professional learning and professional development are often used interchangeably by teachers and providers.
Professional development refers to the processes, activities and experiences that provide opportunities to extend teacher professional learning. Participation in continuing professional development assists in the development of teacher professional learning.
Professional learning refers to the growth of teacher expertise that leads to improved student learning. Professional learning is demonstrated through practice. It is also the opportunity for teachers to put into practice their professional development.
Continuing professional learning is needed to keep abreast of new developments in curriculum and pedagogy arising from the changing and evolving educational, social and cultural contexts in which teachers work and students learn.
CEASA and its affiliated associations are committed to ongoing professional learning, to develop the knowledge and skills of teachers so they can ultimately improve classroom outcomes.
